Electrician in Battersea

NICEIC-approved electricians in Battersea, covering SW11 and SW8. Few parts of London pack so many kinds of home into one district: mansion flats on Prince of Wales Drive, the Victorian cottage streets of Shaftesbury Park, the council-built Latchmere Estate, Park Town around Queenstown Road and thousands of new apartments at the Power Station and Nine Elms. Each one calls for a different approach to rewiring, testing and EV charging – and every quote we give is fixed and in writing.

Three Battersea housing types, three different jobs

Mansion flats on Prince of Wales Drive

Overstrand, Cyril, Norfolk, Primrose and York Mansions went up between 1893 and 1897 along the southern edge of Battersea Park. Tall ceilings and decorative plasterwork are part of the appeal, and both make cable routes something to plan rather than improvise. Supplies in blocks of this age generally come up through communal risers controlled by the freeholder, and hallway lighting and entry systems run off a separate landlord’s supply. Before quoting a flat rewire or a board change, we find out where your meter and isolator actually are and what the lease says about touching them.

Shaftesbury Park, Latchmere and Park Town

The Shaftesbury Park Estate is roughly 1,200 two-storey houses built between 1873 and 1877 by the Artizans’, Labourers’ and General Dwellings Company. A short walk away, the Latchmere Estate – 315 homes on Freedom, Reform, Odger and Burns Streets – was finished in 1903 by Battersea Borough Council using its own direct labour, and it had electric light from the day it was built, which was unusual at the time. That’s a nice piece of history, but it doesn’t mean the wiring is old in a charming way: more than a century of alterations sits behind those walls, and an EICR is the only way to know what you’ve got.

Park Town, built between 1863 and 1916 around Queenstown Road and St Philip Square, includes purpose-built flats designed to look like terraced houses, with paired front doors. One “house” is often two separate flats with two supplies and two meters – worth knowing before anyone switches off the wrong one. The Three Sisters (Orbel, Edna and Ursula Streets, villas of 1880–84) have their own conservation area too.

Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms

The Grade II* listed Power Station opened to the public in October 2022, at the centre of a 42-acre development of more than 4,000 homes, with Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms stations opening on 20 September 2021. Work in these buildings is about fitting in with building management: permits, agreed hours, protecting finishes and reinstating fire-stopping. Most residents ask us for extra circuits, lighting changes, fault finding and appliance supplies rather than rewires.

Article 4 on Shaftesbury Park and Latchmere

Both estates are conservation areas covered by Article 4 directions. On Shaftesbury Park the direction controls windows, doors, roofs, porches and painting, so the street-facing side of each cottage is protected in detail. For electrical work that means thinking hard before fixing anything to the front: a new meter cabinet, an outside light by the door, surface cable or a wall-mounted charger may need consent. Rear and side walls are usually simpler. We point out anything that needs approval when we quote, so you’re not left with a fitting the council wants removed.

Charging at home is rarely possible on these streets anyway – Battersea sits inside a controlled parking zone, and a charging cable can’t legally cross the footway. The practical options are the borough’s 5kW lamp-column chargers, which residents can request from Wandsworth Council, or the faster public bays.

The Diamond Estate flood of July 2021

On 25 July 2021 a flash flood got inside around 22 homes on Gambetta, Montefiore, Tennyson and Prairie Streets – the “Diamond Estate” within Park Town. Battersea’s Thames frontage is protected by the Thames Barrier; this was surface water with nowhere to go.

If water ever reaches sockets, a consumer unit or ceiling roses, isolate the supply at the main switch if you can do so safely and stay away from anything wet. Don’t keep resetting a tripped RCD. We’ll test insulation resistance circuit by circuit and only re-energise what passes. When we rewire ground floors in these streets, we keep the board and sockets higher and give downstairs circuits their own protection, so a wet floor doesn’t take out the whole house.

Landlords in Northcote ward

Northcote ward – the streets around Northcote Road – joined the council’s second selective licensing designation in April 2026, so every private let there now needs a licence. Licences usually last five years, and penalties for letting without one run up to £30,000. Shared homes anywhere in Battersea also fall under borough-wide additional HMO licensing.

Both schemes rely on a satisfactory EICR. Ours come with each C1, C2 and C3 observation explained, a fixed remedial price and a fresh certificate ready for the council once the work is signed off.

Electrician in Battersea – FAQs

Almost certainly not all of it – the estate had electric light when it was built, but over a hundred years of upgrades and alterations will have followed. An EICR tells you what’s actually there and whether any of it needs attention.

Usually, yes – many were built as two flats designed to look like one house. Each normally has its own meter and consumer unit, and we’ll confirm which is which before isolating anything.

On the back, generally yes. On the front, the Article 4 direction makes it worth checking with the council first, because the street elevation is closely controlled.

If affected circuits were never formally tested afterwards, yes. Water can leave corrosion and damaged insulation that only shows up later, and an EICR will find it.

Anything involving the riser, the intake or communal areas will need the freeholder or managing agent’s agreement, and many leases require consent for a full rewire. We can liaise with them directly.

Yes – NICEIC Approved Contractor and Domestic Installer, assessed annually, with certificates accepted by insurers, lenders, letting agents and building control.

No. Quotes are free and written, and the price we give is the price you pay unless the scope changes.
