Our Surrey office is in Esher itself, at 20 Ember Lane (KT10 8EP), so for homes in the village, Lower Green and West End we’re a local firm rather than a London one making the trip. Esher electricians spend a lot of time on big houses with big demands – EV charging, heat pumps, garden buildings – alongside rewires, EICRs and consumer unit upgrades. Everything is NICEIC-certified and priced in writing before we start.

Emergency electrician Esher: a team based on Ember Lane
When the power goes, distance matters. Because we work out of Ember Lane, an emergency call from Esher High Street, Lower Green or the roads around Sandown Park doesn’t mean waiting for someone to cross London. Lost power across the house, an RCD that trips the moment you reset it, a burning smell from a socket or the board, water coming through a ceiling – ring us rather than emailing.
On the phone we’ll talk you through making things safe, which usually means switching off at the main switch and not touching anything that’s wet. Then we’ll come out, find the fault and either fix it there and then or make it safe and give you a written price for the repair. The office is open 08:00–18:00 on weekdays, and we take emergency call-outs too.
Why Esher electricians plan for larger loads
Esher has a higher share of detached houses than almost anywhere we work: 41.0% of homes in Esher ward, with 23.7% semi-detached, 16.9% flats and 13.7% terraced (Census 2021). Big houses tend to collect big electrical demands, and they rarely arrive all at once.
A typical pattern: an extension in the 1990s, a garden office in 2015, then an EV and perhaps a heat pump. Each addition is fed from a board that was never planned for it. The result is a consumer unit with no spare ways, circuits doubled up, and a main supply that may now be the limiting factor.
Before we fit anything new to an Esher house we do a load assessment. That tells us whether the existing supply can take an EV charger, heat pump or garden building, or whether UK Power Networks needs to look at an upgrade first. Better to know that at quote stage than on installation day.
EV charging on the drive
Most Esher houses have off-street parking, which makes home charging straightforward. We fit OZEV-approved chargers, handle the UK Power Networks notification and, where load is tight, use load management so the charger backs off when the rest of the house is busy.
Garden buildings and outbuildings
Gyms, offices, studios and pool houses need a properly sized armoured supply, their own protection at the far end and, with a long run, a voltage drop calculation. We’ll design that before the trench is dug.
Lakeside Drive and Esher’s other conservation areas
Four conservation areas cover parts of Esher, each with its own character:
- Esher – designated in 1973 and extended since (including Clive Road, and again in 2008), centred on the medieval core at the A307 junction and taking in the Grade I Church of St George.
- West End – designated in 1977, a semi-rural green with ponds.
- Lakeside Drive – designated in 2013 for its 1970s modular houses by Royston Summers, set around a 19th-century lake.
- Weston Green – designated in 1977 on the Thames Ditton border, including The Elms (Grade II*) and All Saints Church (Grade II).
Lakeside Drive deserves a note. Houses assembled from factory-made modules aren’t built like a brick villa, so before running new cables we look at how the walls, floors and voids were put together, and plan fixings and routes around that rather than assuming conventional construction.
Elmbridge lists no Article 4 directions in Esher – the borough’s only two are in Cobham – but conservation area status still matters for anything visible from the street, such as a charger or meter box on a front elevation. Claremont House (1770) and Wayneflete’s Tower are both Grade I listed, where any work to the fabric needs listed building consent.
The Ember, the Mole and Lower Green
The River Ember branches off the Mole south of Island Barn Reservoir, running between East Molesey and Lower Green. The Environment Agency names Esher among the areas protected by the Lower Mole Flood Alleviation Scheme, designed after the 1968 flood and built in the 1980s. It protects around 1,300 homes and businesses from Hersham to the Thames – though, with its design life running out, the Environment Agency is reviewing it.
If you’re rewiring a ground floor near the Ember, we’ll suggest putting the consumer unit higher, lifting sockets off the floor and separating downstairs circuits, so water in one area doesn’t take out the house.

Electrician in Esher – FAQs
Our Surrey office is at 20 Ember Lane in Esher, so we’re local. For emergencies, call 07866 433378 and we’ll give you an honest arrival time on the phone.
Sometimes, sometimes not. We’ll do a load assessment first. If the supply is the bottleneck, we’ll explain the options, including load management or applying to UK Power Networks for an upgrade.
The rules are the same, but the construction isn’t conventional masonry. We check how your house is built before planning cable routes, so fixings and routes suit the structure.
There are no Article 4 directions in Esher, but a charger on a front wall in a conservation area may still need consent. A side or garage wall is usually simpler. We’ll advise before quoting.
The Lower Mole scheme protects Esher, but it’s under review and nearing the end of its design life. If you’re rewiring anyway, it’s worth raising the board and sockets while the walls are open.
Yes – NICEIC Approved Contractor and Domestic Installer, assessed annually, with certificates accepted by insurers, lenders, letting agents and building control.
No. Quotes are free and written, and the price we give is the price you pay unless the scope changes.
